May and June were busy months for The Afro Grants. Definitely May, hence why you’re getting these 2 months wrapped in one post. May flew by and before I knew it June was here and now all of a sudden July has snuck up on us. We are over half way through 2019 at this point, wow!
The biggest events in May were Andy’s birthday and Mother’s Day. Hubby is another year older, wiser and I can honestly say I’ve seen his growth from when we first started dating in 2016 to now. He has matured in how he approaches situations and people. He has also grown as a father and provider. His determination and persistence continue to shine through despite circumstances and it definitely makes me proud to know that I have such a great man to call my husband and father to our Vincy.
My initial plans for his birthday had to take the back burner because Andy wasn’t feeling well that weekend =( So I cooked and made his favorite cake - black cake. We (Vincy and I) gifted him with his presents and celebrated at home as a family.
On the Friday before Mother’s Day, Andy took me to the Good Music Festival at Barclay’s Center. Monica, Ashanti, Joe, Jaheim, Raheem Devaughn and Avant performed the night we went. It was definitely a vibe that brought us back to the early 2000’s when pretty much all the music we listened to told a story and had meaning. The only downside was all the random people smoking throughout the arena. I mean, to each his own but I find smoking in an indoor space around people who may not smoke or may have respiratory problems to be extremely inconsiderate. But...we got through it and enjoyed the show all the same.
On Mother’s Day our baby cousin SJ was christened. We headed to Queens, NY and celebrated his dedication to the Lord. It was a really beautiful moment to see the new generation of babies and children on my moms side of the family all together.
On my dads side of the family, we had our first family dinner since my granny passed away in 2012. It was also nice seeing the new generation of babies on this side! There are soo many new little people to hug and love on in our family.
Vincy also spent his first weekend away from us with his auntie, Andy’s sister. He definitely had a good time! He came back with money from her coworkers and he had a couple of balloons that never made it to New Jersey lol. He was living like the true prince that he is. Can you believe he came back and wanted nothing to do with me for a bit? I admit, I was in my feelings but he came around again eventually loll
My brother and Vincent’s uncle Tristan graduated college in May! We are beyond proud of him and Vince sat through the graduation with no issues lol I’m a proud mama. He played with and talked to a few babies sitting near us and then after awhile, he and the other babies all fell asleep. #MommyWins
For Memorial Day, we went to the Intrepid with my sisters and god daughter. The kids had a good time running around and it was a great day for a new experience at the pier. I have to admit, I usually don’t do anything too patriotic for these holidays. But especially now that I’m a mom, I do want to expose Vincent to as many different experiences as possible. I’m constantly looking for new activities for us to do.
June started off semi slow which was good for us. We needed to recover from the turn up all May loll. Father’s Day was great (I think so anyway). My brother and I took Andy and our father to the movies. We saw the new Men In Black which was actually really good. Not better than the first days Andy loll but definitely #2. The following Sunday I took Andy to NJPAC to see Earthquake’s Father’s Day Comedy show. I haven’t seen him laugh so hard and for so long since I’ve met him y’all. If you know Andy, I mean really know him? Then you know he can get a good laugh out of a joke, especially one he told smh lol. But this was different. I feel like I accomplished my mission to give him a fun Father’s Day weekend. He also said he hadn’t laughed that much in a while soo #WifeWins =D

Towards the end of the month we celebrated one of my good friends daughters first birthday party at Propsect Park. It was a really nice unicorn themed party and Vincy was able to have some pink velvet cake from Allan’s Bakery (all of my childhood cakes were purchased here if my granny didn’t make them). He also played in sprinklers for the first time. At first, he wasn’t into it because the water was a bit cold. When I picked him up and brought him over to the spout though? He had a ball! Loll he loved putting his hand into the stream and watching the water spray in a bunch of different directions as well as onto him. The following day was my cousins baby shower! She’s having baby girl number 2 and she also got engaged! Soo happy for her and this new chapter that she’s entering in life.
Well folks, thanks for bearing with me on this combination post. I hope July will be full of happy moments and blessings for all of us!
